What is the Victorian Points Test (VPT)?

The Victorian Points Test (VPT) is Victoria's own ranking system used to score and rank Registrations of Interest (ROIs) for subclass 190 and 491 visa nominations. Unlike the federal SkillSelect system, the VPT has no fixed pass mark — invitations go to applicants with the highest VPT totals in each round.

What is the maximum VPT score?

The maximum possible VPT score is 950 points: Age (up to 300) + English (up to 200) + Experience (up to 100) + Education (up to 100) + Occupation Skill Level (up to 50) + Partner Skills (up to 50) + Annual Victorian Earnings (up to 150).

Is the VPT different from the federal SkillSelect points test?

Yes. The VPT is Victoria's own ranking system. The federal SkillSelect test (minimum 65 points) is a separate requirement for visa eligibility. Both must be met — SkillSelect for visa eligibility, and VPT for Victorian nomination competitiveness.

What are Priority Industries for Victorian visa nominations in 2026-27?

For 2026-27, Victoria's priority industries are: Healthcare (radiographers, nurses, allied health), Social Assistance (psychologists, social workers), Education (secondary & special needs teachers, early childhood educators), and Construction (engineers, surveyors, tradespeople including electricians, plumbers, and carpenters).

How do I qualify for the Priority Industry pathway?

Your nominated ANZSCO occupation must be listed in one of Victoria's 2026-27 priority industry groups. Within each invitation round, ROIs with the highest VPT totals in each priority industry are selected — so your occupation must be on the priority list AND you need a competitive VPT total within that industry.

Two Pathways to Victorian Nomination

When you submit an ROI, you are automatically considered under both options.

1 Most Competitive

ROIs with the highest VPT totals across all eligible occupations in the pool are invited each round. Open to everyone — no special occupation needed.

2 Priority Industry

ROIs with the highest VPT totals within each priority industry are also selected. Your occupation must be in Healthcare, Education, Social Assistance, or Construction.

⚠️ The VPT has no fixed pass mark. Unlike the federal SkillSelect test, Victorian nominations are purely competitive — the highest VPT scores in each round receive invitations. You must also hold a minimum 65 federal SkillSelect points separately.
